Hello Tour du Rouge Alumni and Friends,
I hope this finds you all well. As we embark on the 16th year of the Tour du Rouge, we had to take a step back and evaluate the past few years. We all know that costs for just about everything have gone up. For the Tour specifically, hotel rooms, tent rentals, vehicle rentals, merchandise and food costs have risen excessively for the past three years.
When we created Tour du Rouge in 2009, our goal was that 50% of fundraising would go to expenses and 50% would go to the charity. We are nowhere near meeting that goal at this point. We started out with a required $2,500 fundraising goal per rider in 2009. We raised it to $2,750 in 2018. We reviewed all of the numbers the past few years and had to make the hard decision to raise the fundraising amount to $3,500. We realize this is a big jump but we have not been adjusting the fundraising minimum over the years as we should to keep up with inflation and rising costs. We should have been making smaller increases over the years.
We compared our fundraising amount to other 5/6/7 day rides and even at $3,500, the Tour Du Rouge is still one of the best values for a multiday ride in the USA. Most other rides are in the $3,500-$4,000 range and are camping or on your own for lodging. We want to do everything we can to provide needed funds to the Arc while keeping the Tour du Rouge at a premiere level!
I truly want everyone who wants to ride Tour du Rouge to be able to. I am happy to meet with you and help with fundraising ideas. I'm also happy to help coordinate a team effort fundraiser for anyone that is interested.
Keep in mind any corporate sponsorship of $5,000 or more includes a rider spot. This is really the easiest way to cover your fundraising commitment. We have so many wonderful in-kind sponsors but we desperately need cash sponsors. If we had a large title sponsor to cover the majority of the expenses, we could keep the fundraising minimum lower for everyone. Contact me for a Sponsorship Sheet.
Take care,
Dory
